my mac

I did it.

I have been wanting to buy a laptop for over a year…more like pining over the MacBook or staring longingly.  And today when she was there to hold my hand (or push me over the edge) I did it.  It was pretty much amazing.  I am navigating this awesome machine right now and loving every second.  I guess I was waiting until I really deserved it, but lets be honest, when was that ever going to happen.  Seize the day, or something!

This is me right after the purchase…a little happy you could say.

I got sucked into this brand all the way and there is no turning back now.  I am so excited there is no way to contain it!  Oh and wish me good luck with work tomorrow because I am going to be up until at least 3:00 am on this computer!  Ahhhh this is so much fun!!

thank you apocaknits for showing me the way to the light!

in-dog-nito

October 21, 2008 by greengurrl

So I checked out this book InDognito by Karen Ngo. It was recommended to me by the always awesome Mary B! I know that it’s not quite Halloween yet, but dog costumes were already on sale at target and i just had to do it. gi gi is a pig and elaine is a busy bee. Hope you think they are cute, and check out that book for a cuteness overload!! But first here they are just taking a nap in the sun, like a Mexican dog would.

checking out each other disguised as pig and bee.

ha ha! I got my stupid pig hat off!

tiny little piggy

is that a dog or a stuffed animal?

so i know all i have posted about lately is my dogs, but they just happen to be the cutest, most interesting thing happening right now. Maybe when it is actually Halloween I will post some pictures of me in costume!

the park

October 13, 2008 by greengurrl

We went for a walk in the park right down the street from our new apartment today. It was a beautiful day. I don’t really have anything important to say so here are some pictures!

gi gi is pretty lazy at the park and elaine is so happy. gi pretty much gets tired in 10 minutes of walking and wants to sit around and pant the rest of the time. Elaine is so excited when she is off her leash like a free dog. I tried to catch a picture of her mid-run and the picture on the right is the best I could do. Then, my dogs jumped all over me.

Then Dan posed a picture. He is always trying to bring good luck to his teams on game day. Go Dolphins?!

We walked some more.

I got thirsty, and something must have happened to our water fountain. This is what is left of it. cement and a burst pipe. Now that surrounding area is flooded. That brick on the ground to the left was on top of the pipe, but I wouldn’t exactly call that a solution or anything.

But I was still thirsty!!

Then my camera died. Not a very interesting post, but I hope you liked all the pictures!

s.o.s.

May I introduce you to my newest addiction:

It was love at first sight…First I tried the beloved pumpkin spice latte. Then I found myself walking back to the Starbucks close to work day after day. I loved the pumpkin spice, but I knew in the back of my head that its only a seasonal drink. So I started trying different drinks, to find the one drink that was perfect for me. I tried a caramel macchiato, very delicious, but a little too filling for me. So I thought I would try something simpler, I went for the traditional house blend. That was a bust, even with sweeteners and milk it was way too strong for me. Then I found the skinny vanilla latte. I sprinkled a touch of cinnamon on top and it’s perfect.

It didn’t help my addiction that I was reading this book. It was a pretty interesting read. I wasn’t that impressed with the main character, but I did like learning about Starbucks as an organization. He made it sound pretty amazing to work for them, and maybe it is! I’m hooked.

Is this the direction I’m headed? I’m afraid…

I’m already trying to figure out a way I can make coffee at home in an affordable way. I am looking into buying a little 4 cup Mr. Coffee machine and I’m walking aimlessly through the coffee aisle at Kroger. I need a little help, if you have any advice for a lost Starbucks addict like me please help! How much coffee? how much milk? what are these different roasts and creamers? Hopefully I can figure this out without giving my poor stomach an ulcer.

Starbucks is not the most “green” organization, but using your own mug and cutting the paper waste is the best personal step you can take. They are trying to improve their paper waste by using a partially post consumer recycled paper cup and sleeve.

A girl has gotta watch her back though or I could become this

my puppies

Lately I have just been working, reading, and hanging out with my dogs. So maybe its dumb to post about my dogs, but I’m going for it anyway.

elaine-me-gi gi

gi gi, the 3 year old longhair chihuahua was my first dog. I got her when I was a sophomore at OSU and we are a complete match made in heaven. I’m pretty sure this dog likes treats and laying on my lap as much as I love chex mix and reality tv.

But, because she is a little on the lazy side I thought I needed a second dog to pep her up a little! Thats when elaine came into the picture. I got elaine (also responds to lanie, wiggles, and other assorted names) in March of my junior year. She is the polar opposite of gi gi, likes palying with toys, running around, but is very fearful of strangers. They play together a lot, get very jealous if the other is getting more attention, and are neutral or shy around other dogs.

I have been searching for ways to keep my dogs healthy in a natural way. Eco Dog was a good start! This book had some healthy food alternatives, but it is nearly impossible to cook a meal for you AND your dog every day. There were some cute ideas about reusing fabrics or stuff from home to make cute dog toys/beds and there was also some good ideas about dog safe cleaning products and shampoos. The other good thing about most of this eco stuff is that these products are not animal tested! I have switched over my cosmetics to cruelty free products and hopefully I can switch over my household cleaners too!

hip hop vs hippie

August 23, 2008 by greengurrl

hey everyone, I guess this is me!

The beautifully melodic bass of hip hop music has won me over, but deep down I’m just a flower child. I’m trying to figure out how the two worlds of me can coexist, but i think i can do it. I can squeeze myself into some pretty tight jeans, this will fit, right?

so fly

lil' mama is so fly

joni mitchell belts it out for peace

Every day I get in my car and drive to work and its either 107.5 or NPR. I don’t know how its possible to shop at a store and be strangely drawn to both the most comfortable Birkenstock’s ever and also these babies. Hmm … and now that I priced them I think I might actually get them (somebody please save me from myself). My sense of style is definitely confused and I should probably get around to figuring it out and quit buying things only because they are “just so soft”. But it doesn’t end there. I try my best to be environmentally aware and protect our precious earth, but to do that I have to battle my consumer self. In one of my jobs the major focus is to sell and the other is to reuse. Hopefully one day I can work for a company that will sell something that has been recycled! ha!
So I started this blog for work, and also because she held my hand every step of the way. Hopefully someone out there will find it interesting. I might talk about stuff for work, easy tips on the greenification of life, or maybe ill just throw up a the lil’ wayne video that I can’t seem to get enough of that week. I’m already addicted to the internet, so I’m pretty sure I just sold my soul to the devil but I’m jumping into the Styx with both feet!
welcome to me
